Reverend Peter W. Gravis (1828-1902) was born in Nashville, Tennessee, to Thomas F. Gravis, and moved to Texas in 1838, part of Robertson's Colony. Peter Gravis was a Methodist clergyman and missionary to Texas in the mid-1800s. From a small beginning in May 1932, the Methodist Crusaders Choir, then with 75 choristers, was hurriedly formed and made its first public appearance at the General Conference Meetings of the Methodist Church of Australasia. It is primarily a hymn-singing choir, and the devoted members feel that the main purpose in their coming together is to spread the gospel message of the Church by means of song.
